You Are Part Of
A Powerful Legacy
— The Legacy of Dr. Moses Powell —
Message From The Founder
Professor Imhotep A. Bholai, The Island Monk
Ous! Greetings, Peace, and Blessings, Warriors.
You stand at the threshold of a path few dare to tread — a path that calls not just to fighters, but to warriors of heart, spirit, and mind.
I welcome you to Warrior Temple Island University, a vision born from a deep calling that ignited within me as a young boy. My father would often say, “Sanuces is not kindergarten; Sanuces is University-level martial arts.” Those words struck me, resonating with a profound truth. I began to wonder, why is there no place dedicated to this level of mastery, to the pursuit of martial arts as both a science and an art form worthy of academic honor? These questions planted seeds that grew as I realized the necessity of a higher learning institution for martial arts — a place where skill meets wisdom, and where every step taken is one toward mastery of self, body, and spirit.
From an early age, I was fascinated not only by the how of martial arts but the why — the intricate laws that govern our actions, the wisdom that animates the vessel we call the body, and the spirit that fuels it all. The Creator’s wisdom is infinite, and all creation holds mysteries that beckon us to learn, explore, and understand. To honor this depth, I saw the need for a university that goes beyond technique, diving into the very essence of martial arts and the human spirit. A place where learning is approached on a level so granular, it borders the subatomic.
This vision is rooted not only in my love for martial arts but in my reverence for education and The Creator. To build this institution is to honor The Creator by creating a path for others to rise, understand, and master themselves. My journey began as a young assistant instructor at the age of eight, and by twelve, I was a fully certified instructor, committed to sharing knowledge with discipline, compassion, and creativity. Martial arts, to me, has always been a life’s art — a way to be flexible yet unbreakable, to understand others and oneself. It is a discipline that demands empathy, adaptability, and a creative spirit that flows through every lesson taught.
The Rhythm of a Warrior’s Heart
Dr. Moses Powell didn’t just teach Sanuces Ryu; he embodied it. In every movement, he conveyed an unspoken story, a rhythm, a pulse that resonated with his students on a deeper level. When he would say, “Eye-2-Eye…” and you’ll learn the rest of that statement as you embark on this journey with us, he wasn’t simply giving instructions — he was instilling a code, a way of moving through life with intention and connection. This is the heartbeat of Warrior Temple Island University, a rhythm that guides each warrior to connect not only in combat but in spirit.
He taught us that true survival lies in simplicity, that real strength is in outthinking, outstepping, and outlasting — not just overpowering. Imagine the lessons we carry forward: when we say “Survival & Simplicity,” it means every step, every move should flow with purpose. It’s not about showing who hits harder, but who can stay calm in chaos, whose spirit remains unbroken even when tested to the core. We fight not to dominate but to protect — to stand firm in peace until peace is no longer an option.
“As we walk, we walk in peace. And fear will not prevail. We are not the aggressors, but if we are attacked, we fight with those who fight with us. And if we must fight, we fight to survive.” This creed is not just a speech; it’s a covenant, a vow each warrior here takes to honor the sanctity of life while standing ready to defend it with everything they have.
There is no substitute for experience. These principles will pulse through your veins, guiding each step, each breath, until they are as natural as your heartbeat. Here, at Warrior Temple Island University, you will not just learn them — you will live them, move through them, and they will move through you.
A Legacy of Balance and Mastery
My vision for Warrior Temple Island University extends beyond martial technique to encompass the full mastery of self. This means truly knowing oneself — physically, mentally, and spiritually. We train not just to defend, but to lead, to heal, and to inspire. I pray that every warrior who walks these halls gains more than an understanding of Sanuces Ryu Jujitsu; they gain the confidence to walk their life’s path boldly, with a heart deeply connected to The Creator, embodying integrity, wisdom, and humility.
I hope to see this art — this powerful system that has shaped countless lives across the globe and has stood as a formidable force in urban, military, and tactical warfare — elevated to a new prime. Dr. Powell’s work is timeless, and my goal is to document, preserve, and evolve it so that it lives on in its fullest expression, understood and practiced on both a traditional and academic level.
In the next decade, I envision this university as a catalyst, shifting society’s understanding of martial arts. This is not just a sport, but a way of life — one that every man, woman, and child can benefit from. Martial arts is a pathway to wisdom, protection, and purpose, one that should stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any respected field of study. May this institution create warriors who are as skilled in healing as they are in combat, destroyers when necessary, but also restorers and protectors of life.
To Those in Search of Purpose
To anyone standing on the edge, wondering if this path is for them, let me say this: Martial arts is a life-long journey, not just of building the body but of building the complete human being. This is the greatest weapon martial arts can ever equip you with. Here, at Warrior Temple Island University, we delve into every facet of what makes us who we are — seen and unseen. We explore these layers of existence so that, if The Creator wills it to be so, you will absolutely find the answers you seek and the purpose you were meant to fulfill.
This is also why there are many paths within the Master & Scholar path. Though the paths may be many, you are one, capable of pursuing all studies within the university in pursuit of yourself.
This is my mission, my calling, and my prayer for Warrior Temple Island University — that it becomes a sanctuary of strength, wisdom, and self-discovery for those ready to rise and lead. May The Creator guide you as you embrace this journey fully, take your first step, and awaken the warrior within.
